GVEP International Job Title: SME Advisor Reports to: Programme Manager, ESME Based in: GVEP International Uganda Office, Kampala, Uganda Purpose This is a fixed term 12 month contract to support the Africa Regional Office in implementing the ESME programme under the World Bank-administered Russian Fund. The fund is for supporting Energy SMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa to strengthen their capacity to provide energy services to poor communities in the SSA region. GVEP International is providing technical assistance, business development services and assistance in accessing finance for SMEs in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and Senegal. Government agencies in these countries also receive funding from the Trust Fund to support SMEs through specific programmes which GVEP International has helped design. In Uganda, GVEP International will work with existing manufactures and distributors of energy efficient cookstoves under the auspices of the World Bank’s African Clean Cooking Energy Solutions (ACCES) program to help them build robust supply chains and increase their market reach in new, underserved areas of Uganda. The program will build capacity at each level in the value chain, providing business advisory to stove manufacturers, creating new market linkages and distribution outlets and supporting distributors with market development activities to increase sales. The Role The SME Advisor will be an integral member of the team supporting the implementation of the ESME programme. The post holder will coordinate the selection of businesses to work with under the program in Uganda and the support that they subsequently receive including technical and business advisory, product testing and development of new supply chains and market outlets. The role will also involve coordinating with other organisations that are offering support services to stove business particular those under other World Bank funded projects, including the Private Sector Foundation Uganda and the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking.
